About Will Mellor

Background

Will Mellor is best known for founding 2oceansvibe Media 15 years ago under his public persona, Seth Rotherham. What was originally a blog, has now grown into an online news publication with 1 million followers.

Before 2oceansvibe, Will was educated in Cape Town at Bishops and received a degree in marketing at the Cape Technikon.

Three years in the UK followed, coding and designing websites during the IT boom. The bubble burst and Will returned to Cape Town, launching an online villa rental businesses in 2000.

2oceansvibe started hitting the headlines in the early “noughties” as the blog phenomenon reached the mainstream press – further bolstering its readership and fanbase. Mass exposure and innovative marketing methods included a public spat with an Idols judge and being made GQ Magazine’s Best Dressed Man in 2010.

Once 2oceansvibe was fully functional, a few other companies were created – some worked (international cane furniture business called Malawi Cane) and some failed (Truffle King imported black truffles to Cape Town from Provence). The success of the cane business prompted a book, entitled “Work is a sideline – Live the holiday” – the same slogan seen on the 2oceansvibe masthead.

OurHood was co-founded in 2014 and after receiving international investment is now South Africa’s biggest social network for neighbourhoods.

With systems in place and a young family at home, Will obtained his fixed-wing pilot’s license in 2015 and attained a life-long goal by studying at Harvard Business School in 2017 (‘Launching New Ventures’).
